Remedial massage is a form of massage therapy that is considered a ‘remedy’ to illness/pain or discomfort as opposed to the more pamper/relaxation styles. Generally remedial techniques use stronger pressure and work more deeply into the muscle tissue and facia to loosen muscular skeletal tension, to deactivate ‘trigger points’ and release adhesions and correct postural imbalance. A broad range of techniques are studied at a Diploma level and post graduate level.
Postural Assessment, Range Of Motion Assessment and Orthopaedic Tests are used to determine the best course of treatment. In a ‘remedial massage’ treatment the therapist aims to address muscular tension in the body, improve muscular skeletal range of movement, decrease pain and discomfort and generally improve mental and emotional wellbeing.
Remedial massage treatment encompasses a range of modalities including; Myo Facial Release Technique (MFR), Trigger Point Therapy, Deep Tissue Massage, Soft Tissue Massage, Neuro-Structural Integration technique (NST), and corrective stretches.
